Karen’s Story

 

So my story started when I was around 16 and suffered really badly with painful periods. Every month I was pretty much bedridden for three to four days, in excruciating pain. 

Back then, in the very early 00’s I had never heard of Endometriosis and I feel like none of the doctors that I dealt with had heard of it either. I remember being sent to the Mater hospital to get a pelvic ultrasound done to see what was going on. I was told that I was just unlucky and suffering from painful periods, the contraceptive pill was prescribed for me and that was eventually what helped with the pain after many trial and error attempts to find one that didn’t send me into a murderous rage or a depressed puddle of tears.

Cut to nearly two decades later and I found myself back in with a doctor trying to find out why my husband…
